The Vertimax apparatus is one of the most dynamic training devices that we use to increase an athlete’s vertical, jumping ability, explosive power output, and lateral movement quickness.
Our goal is to provide the best comprehensive instruction and training that ultimately provides significant athletic improvements. It is important for young athletes to develop what has been called the key Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) all that are a part of their athletic profile. These skills include fundamental motor skills and movement patterns such as skipping, jumping, landing, horizontal and linear acceleration/deceleration all while maintaining balance, coordination, and directional speed. As they move into adolescence it becomes more important to maintain flexibility, coordination, while continuing to improve Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) throughout puberty known in the world of training as Peak Height Velocity (PHV). Once Peak Height Velocity slows, maturation of the body is a must and transitioning of newly gained strength becomes our focus. Our training systems have produced many top game changers in the world of sports and will enable your athlete to be the next. Skill specific practice such as shooting, fielding, and kicking for sport, is important but little practice for improving quick, strong, and coordinated movement through strength training that improves an athletes physique and preparedness for sport. STK firmly believe that if you create a stronger athlete, you create a better player. If a player is physically capable of handling specific training without fatigue, stress fractures, or injury, they will ultimately have more time to develop sport specific skills quicker with precision and power. We have developed specific training regimens that best promote transferability of power, strength, and speed to the field or court.
At the younger age groups, it is important to develop team skills that provide the overall success of a team. Coaches often focus too much on individual skills and neglect vitally important skills such as backups, cut offs and relays. Instruction takes place in a class setting where players learn advanced skills that can only be taught and learned in a group setting. Players will learn skills such as throwing on the run, throwing after a backhand, forehand, or after diving for a ball. They will learn the importance of time, accuracy, and positioning when making plays ranging from double plays and relay throws.

Though we currently only offer skill acquisition classes for Baseball and Softball, we are currently developing programs for skill improvement in Basketball and Football as well at the South Ridge Mall.
All of our adult classes are performed for the South Suburban YMCA in the form of Bootcamp and Warrior Fit. Both are High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes that are packed with motivated, not-afraid-to-sweat people who'll inspire and push you.
